KUWAIT: Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah inaugurated yesterday a conference themed "Woman: Reality and future, " sponsored by First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Aisha Al-Rushaid, who is the chairperson of the conference and also the head of the "Distinguished Parliamentary Foundation," praised the support of Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak, topped by HH the Amir and HH the Crown Prince.
The conference's agenda addresses various themes such as women's vis-a-vis judiciary, women in power and violence against the woman. The conference will also enact legislations against violent acts against women based on Islamic jurisprudence.
Al-Rushaid expressed emphatic rejection of gender indiscrimination, violence, and also raised the basic question of when a woman will attain her rights fairly as stipulated by the Islamic Shariaa law. Dr Ahmad Hashem, the head of the religious committee of the Egyptian People's Assembly, said the conference implied support for women and noted the equality between the two genders as stipulated by the holy Quran.
The eminent academic, Dr Faiza Al-Khorafi affirmed that women in Kuwait occupied senior posts as a result of their struggle and education. Sheikh Ibrahim, along with Al-Rushaid, honored several prominent Kuwaiti personalities, namely Sheikha Fareeha Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Dr Rasha Humoud Al-Sabah, Dr Maasouma Al-Mubarak, Dr Al-Kharafi and Dr Haila Al-Mukaimi - all from the scientific-academic sector.
Those who were honored from the volunteer sector were Moudhi Al-Sultan, Sabeecha Al-Jasser and Fareaah Al-Saqqaf. Honored economic personalities were Maha Al-Ghunaim, Safaa Al-Hashem, and the journalists were Ghaneema Al-Marzoug, Amal Jaafar and Mona Taleb. Those awarded for social activities were Feryal Al-Furaih, Adela Al-Sayer and Salma Al-Ajami.
The conference honored figures from the educational sector as well, such us Mariam Al-Wateed and Yosra Al-Omar. The honored artists were the actresses Hayat Al-Fahad and Mariam Al-Saleh. As to literature, Dr Fatimah Al-Ali, Leila Al-Othman and Kamela Al-Ayyad were also honored.
The eminent poet, Sheikh Duaij Al-Khalifa Al-Sabah was also honored along with the composer Adel Al-Farhan and the Jordanian singer Diana Karazon. Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Duaij praised the role and accomplishments of Kuwaiti women in various sectors and expressed hope that she would attain all her civil rights. --- KUNA
