KUWAIT: Officials recently said that the Kuwait Municipality has decided to change the name of the Um Qasr border area to Al-Bhaith, which is the historic name of the area. Meanwhile, demolition teams from the committee that removes encroachments on state property removed 60 tents that were illegally pitched in front of homes across all six governorates, Al-Qabas reported. Also, 13 encroachments were also removed from the Farwaniya Equestrian Club, including unlicensed stables, buildings and small grocery
stores.
Iraqi diplomat in Kuwait
KUWAIT: Iraqi Diplomat, Amjad Al-Sheikh Taha Al-Azzawi, was recently appointed as the new chargé d'affaires in Kuwait. He will succeed the former chargé, Fadhel Al-Azzawi, who returned to Baghdad after filing for retirement. First Secretary at the Iraqi Embassy in Kuwait, Ahmad Al-Jarba, was the interim chargé for the past month before Al-Azzawi's official appointment, Annahar reported. Al-Azzawi previously worked in Saudi Arabia as the chargé d'affaires in Jeddah.
Parliamentary meeting cancelled
KUWAIT: A small altercation broke out between the head of the parliamentary committee for disabled persons, Musallam Al-Barrak, and committee member, Dr Maasouma Al-Mubarak, after the former cancelled a committee meeting due to a lack of sufficient attendance, an official said. Dr Al-Mubarak was reportedly late in attending the meeting, and a parliamentary source said that Al-Barrak canceled the meeting 30 minutes after its designated start time when all members of the committee failed to report on time, A
l-Rai reported. Al-Mubarak arrived a few minutes later only to be informed that the meeting was cancelled. She and Al-Mubarak then argued about the appropriateness of the cancelling the meeting and whether official regulations justified its cancelation, sources said.
GCC's environmental media
KUWAIT: The Gulf Cooperation Council's environmental media and awareness committee will meet in Riyadh on November 3 and 4 to set a five-year plan and set standards for 'green cities'. Director of the public relations and media department of the Environment Public Authority and member of the GCC committee Dr Ahmad Al-Moussa said that environmental media plays a vital role in developing the environment. He said that the committee meets every six months, adding that the plan to be prepared at the next meetin
g will be referred to Gulf ministers for approval. They also will discuss holding a training course in environmental media in 2010, in addition to holding the fifth youth environment forum next summer. The committee is to discuss engaging environmental aspects in sport activities and will set a date for the third environmental week themed 'Electronic Wastes'. The Gulf officials will form a committee responsible for setting a system for dealing with electronic wastes and launching a campaign on the dangers
of those wastes.
FIFA agrees Kuwait proposal
KUWAIT: Chairman of the transitional committee of Kuwait Football Association Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yousif Al-Sabah said Thursday that FIFA had agreed to the Kuwaiti proposal to allow 14 members in the KFA with no prior conditions regarding this issue. Al-Yousif added that FIFA only suggested minor adjustments to the 14 members law, affirming that the proposals were not binding for KFA. Al-Yousif mentioned that the committee had called for a General Assembly on November 12 to discuss the issue, adding that if t
he sports clubs agree on the plan, the formation of the new member of KFA will be after 45 days. Al-Yousif also called on the 14 official sports clubs in Kuwait to agree on the plan that would salvage Kuwaiti Football from its current situation. Deputy chairman of the committee Asad Taki said, that the committee's duties would end as soon as the KFA's General Assembly approved the 14 members solution.
Media delegation in Sri Lanka
KUWAIT: A Kuwaiti media delegation headed to Sri Lanka on Thursday to develop tourism relations with the Asian country. The delegation from Kuwait Airways is to visit the prominent tourism sites in Sri Lanka. Volunteers to train with ICRC
KUWAIT: The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) will hold a first-aid training session in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Sunday. The session will simulate aid to individuals affected by war, officials said. Musaed Al-Enezi, who is in charge of the KRCS volunteers department and deputy chairman of the Department of Disaster Management, said in a statement to KUNA on Friday that the session, due to start on Sunday and proceed until October 29, will involve 50 voluntee
