KUWAIT: High ranking Ministry of Information officials have reportedly submitted the dossier on media organizations accused of corruption to the Cabinet for consideration, along with notes of the most important comments made on the issue by MPs and a list of the possible legal procedures to be taken.
A ministry official said that the file includes proposals submitted by media figures to make basic amendments to the press and publication laws, as well as TV and radio media legislation. This follows the discovery of legal loopholes which allowed some media establishments to deviate from the approved regulations and abuse media freedom to harm national unity and Kuwait's foreign relations by deliberately insulting friendly brotherly nations, as well as violating Kuwait's legal establishment. The official
emphasized that all these violations are rejected, both officially and popularly, reported Al-Jarida.
The proposed amendments do not aim at reducing media freedom or imposing strict punishment on the country's media, the official continued, adding that the amendments including holding newspapers' and other media outlets' management legally responsible for their content, as well as for invited guests' contributions.
