KUWAIT: Officials announced that in an unusual turnaround, several MPs and political activists called for a no-confidence motion concerning the Minister of Education Nouriya Al-Sabeeh. They maintained that all angles that were discussed at the grilling, condemned the minister and pointed out that she was not qualified to manage the ministry. They also expressed apprehension over the fact that if she still persisted in retaining her position, then she would obliterate the educational process.
MP Saad Al-Shurai who grilled Al-Sabeeh said that all issues directed towards her at the grilling were supported by official documents confirming violations at the ministry. However, he added, her replies to all the questions put forth were not supported by any official documents clearing her of the charges. The Secretary General of the Thawabit Gathering Mohammad Hayef Al-Metairi asked Islamist MPs to support voting for a no-confidence motion because women MPs are not permitted to hold leading positions i
n the state according to Islamic principles.
A difference in stance however, has been noticed among members of the Popular Action Bloc. Some MPs they said, still persist in a no-confidence motion, while other MPs in the same bloc think otherwise and pledge their unwavering support to the minister.
