KUWAIT: Iranian newspaper Etemad Meli has questioned the motives of what it claims are the Kuwaiti government's plans to establish a TV satellite channel broadcasting programs in Farsi.
According to the newspaper, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information (MoI) plans to establish the channel to broadcast dubbed and subtitled programs, as well as Hollywood movies, around the clock.
The Iranian media has already condemned satellite channel MBC's new Farsi-language channel which shows Hollywood films dubbed or subtitled into the Persian language, claiming that it aims to corrupt Iranian youth.
A MoI spokesperson said that the ministry does plan to play some part in setting up the new Farsi-language channel.
He added, however, that given the competition amongst private media organizations with both the specialist knowledge and equipment to establish such channels and their locations outside Kuwait, the government could not control every aspect of it.
