KUWAIT: Interior Minister Sheikh Jaber Khalid Al-Sabah said here on Saturday that the smart card is a significant electronic advance, which aims to facilitate the provision of services to citizens, adding that these cards can be viewed as a key element in any transaction.

In a press statement issued after receiving his smart card from Musaed Al-Asousi, the Director-General of the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI), the interior minister said that the smart card is more than simply an identity card as it contains an electronic chip with a large memory and all the necessary information about the bearer.

Al-Asousi said the smart card is in effect a mini database about the carrier, adding that these cards has gone through several experimental phases and tests to verify the authenticity of the information stored and to ensure that it is quickly accessible in a record time for the completion of many transactions in the various government ministries.

He expressed gratitude for the support and assistance provided by the Interior Minister for all the PACI's work, saying that the two institutions have worked closely together for the benefit of citizens and residents. - KUNA
