Eight-digit phone system 'success'

KUWAIT: The Chairman of the telephone exchange department at the Ministry of Communications Rashid Al-Othaina said the additional numbering system that was completed last Friday achieved great success. Al-Othaina who was in charge of the operations explained that a team of 40 technicians executed the plan which contributed to extending the number of telephone lines up to 100 million that will meet the demand of telephone lines for the next 30 years.

He also said that ministry has retained overseas calls to operate in accordance to the previous system which includes seven digits. He added this system will be retained until such a time when a new system is introduced facilitating voice messages to inform persons who call people in Kuwait to add the new digit, reported Al-Watan.

This message system will be operational for up to six months to help people know the new numbering plan. He expressed his gratitude to all local newspapers for assisting the ministry in implementing the system.
