KUWAIT: More than 200 workers organized a sit-in Thursday morning in front of the Social Affairs Center in Jabriya. The workers were protesting being denied their salaries for more than seven months, bad housing conditions and not having their residency permits renewed.
As soon as the Social Affairs and Labor Ministry officials learned about the strike, Assistant Undersecretary for Labor, Mansour Al-Mansour, went to the location and informed journalists that the Ministry received the workers complaints against the company.
He said that the company's representative was called and ordered to compensate their workers, reported Al-watan. According to Al-Mansour, the company's representative said they are committed to paying their workers on a monthly basis and argued that the late salaries are for no more than two months.
Al-Mansour said that the company had been issued 20 previous citations and still had yet to address the matter. He added that the Ministry will be forced to take legal action against the company if they do not properly compensate their employees.
