KUWAIT: Director of the Arab Nuclear Energy Institute, Dr. Abdulmajid Mehjoob, said yesterday that the institute is extremely interested in seeing Arab countries turn to using nuclear energy in many fields, including electricity production and water distillation.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Second Arab Electricity Conference, currently taking place in Kuwait, Dr. Mehjoob said that the institute is currently mapping out a strategy and programs to exchange fossil fuel energy for nuclear energy.
Nuclear energy is the best substitute for fossil fuel energy, economically, technically and environmentally, and is the aim of many countries around the world, he pointed out.
Dr. Mehjoob also stressed the importance of electricity link between Arab countries, highlighting the scheduled GCC joint electricity project due to be launched during the GCC summit being held in Kuwait next month. The Arab electricity conference, which began yesterday, is to continue for three days, with the participation of power and electricity experts and company representatives. - KUNA
