KUWAIT: A Kuwaiti army officer said here yesterday that the ongoing exercises of the National Guard had nothing to do whatsoever with the current local happenings.
The drills and exercises conducted by the National Guard forces only come within the framework of the training season. They are regular exercises that have been planned and arranged in advance," Col Mohammad Al-Farhan, a National Guard officer, said in a press release.
They (drills) have nothing to do whatsoever with events taking place on the local arena in Kuwait," he added.
He emphasized that the command and staff of the National Guard are an integral part of this nation; shouldering responsibility for maintaining national security and standing against foreign risks and perils facing the nation, as well as protecting its institutions and facilities, in collaboration with the army and police.
They (National Guard) will never be used in hitting the nation's unity or in undermining its social fabric," he said. Al-Farhan prayed that Kuwait would remain an oasis of security and safety under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, with the support of HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. --- KUNA
