KUWAIT: The cornerstone for the Arab Open University's (AOU) new campus was laid in Al-Rai yesterday. More than 5000 students from different nationalities attended this multi-branched university, which now offers courses across different Arab countries. The Minister of Education Dr Moudhi Al-Hmoud attended the event on behalf of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Saudi Prince Turki Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz, Kuwait Branch Manager Dr Esmael Taqqi, and the General Manager of the Ara
b Open University Dr Mousa Mohsen.
Dr Mousa Mohsen said that the establishment of the campus after eight years of tireless work and cooperation displays the university's ambitions. It aims to provide a professional level of education to all who seek it. Prince Turki Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz represented Prince Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Chairman of board members at the Arab Open University.
He said that since its inception in November 2002, the university has continued to provide professional quality education to those who seek it. Prince Turki also added that had the Kuwaiti government not allowed the University to open its branch in Kuwait in December 2000, "This day would not have materialized and we wouldn't have been here today.
He added, "This university is a non-profit foundation which accepts all types of donations to turn the dream of education into a fact instead of fiction." Prince Turki went on to say that some of the issues that overanalyzed by the media and press may appear puzzling, when in reality it is only a minor issue. In the end, the Saudi Arabian royal urged the educational sector, to view the project from an Arab perspective. He anticipated that project would be completed by July 2011.
