KUWAIT: Abdulazis Al-Azaimi, the undersecretary of communication, accompanied by the Syrian Minister of Tourism, Dr Sadallah Agha Al-Kala'a inaugurated the Kuwait World Travel Expo 2007 yesterday. The exhibition, to last until April 12, is organised and being held at the Kuwait International Fair Grounds (KIFG) in Mishref. Their objective is to promote tourism around the world and help Kuwaitis find the best place to visit this summer. Countries represented include Egypt, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tunisia, US, some European countries and neighbouring states in the Middle East including Iran. Kuwaiti businessman Jawad Abu-Kamsin was among the first visitors during the inauguration.

Abdularahman Muhammad Al-Nasser, KIFG assistant managing director was delighted to host such exhibitions, which he said could benefit not just local population, but promote tourism of several countries around the world.

"We are happy to be hosting several countries around the world in one roof. Kuwaiti people want to travel a lot and bringing such countries represented here could help them decide. It is just the right place and time for such an exhibition, I hope we could serve them in a way especially those who are just planning their vacation. But before travelling, this is the right place to visit, the decision starts here," he said.

Al-Nasser thanked Shareeda Abdullah Al-Maousherji, the minister of communication and minister of state for National Assembly affairs for their support and cooperation. He also commended the Tourism and Aviation General Department for helping them conceptualise the Kuwait Expo.

Tourism for many countries is one of their major sources of income and such promotions could certainly boost their stand in the tourism sector. The Kuwaiti population usually looks for some place to go during the summer as to avoid the exasperating heat. The Syrian Tourism Minister's visit was a timely endeavour to encourage more local people to visit their country, famous for such wonderful weather even during the summer.
