CAIRO: Kuwait Ambassador to Egypt Dr. Rashed Al-Hamad yesterday inaugurated the Abdulaziz Rashed Lahsan Mosque in Al-Saff town, Helwan Governorate, south Cairo.
The construction of mosque was funded by the Kuwaiti Lasan family sponsored by Kuwait's Revival of Islamic Heritage Society (RIHS).

Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the ambassador said the mosque will serve thousands of Muslim worshippers in the town. He urged Kuwaiti charities to contribute to Islamic projects in sisterly Egypt such as mosques, religious institutes and hospitals.

These projects materialize the close ties between the two nations," the Kuwaiti diplomat said. Al-Hamad thanked Lasan family and RIHS for their joint initiative, asserting the support of the Kuwaiti government to such religious and humanitarian initiatives in Arab and Muslim nations.

Meanwhile, RIHS Board Chairman Tareq Al-Issa hailed the project as "an imposing Islamic edifice." "The mosque is the nucleus for a grand complex consisting also of a clinic and religious institute," Al-Issa said.

He highly appreciated the generous contributions of the charitable Kuwaiti people like Lahsan family. "The mosque, covering an area of 700 square meters, has been launched in cooperation with the Egyptian Society of Ansar Al-Sunna Al-Mohammadia (loyalists of Prophet Mohammad's tradition)," he noted.

It cost more than 500,000 Egyptian pounds (some 10,000 US dollars)," Al-Issa revealed. The RIHS is currently implementing 14 mosque projects across Egypt, and two hospitals in Alexandria and Aswan," he said, adding that it cares for more than 5,000 Egyptian orphans.

On his part, Director of Society of Ansar Al-Sunna Al-Mohammadia Ahmad Abulhadi voiced gratitude to the State of Kuwait and "her charitable sons" for their generous contributions to such "gigantic projects." He praised the growing cooperation between Egypt and Kuwait in various fields including the revival of Islamic heritage. --KUNA
