New Kuwaiti channel on the horizon

KUWAIT: Al Qurain TV, a new Kuwaiti TV channel, announced yesterday that it will launch on Thursday, 17 of April, 2008. The channel, which was supposed to begin broadcasting during the next Ramadan season, has decided to launch earlier than scheduled due to the upcoming elections. The new channel, with political socio-economic objective, will raise issues of concern trying to narrow the gap in viewpoints, in search for effective solutions to the problems and issues that disrupt the development of the count
ry.

Adel Al-Mekhaizim, General Manager of Al Qurain, clarified that the channel does not follow any specific political agenda and is unbiased to anything except the betterment of Kuwait. "It was not established to cover the elections, but seeing the situation in the country, we saw an urgency to establish it as soon as possible," Al-Mekhaizim explained of the creation of the channel. He denied the relation of any candidates or former MPs to the channel. The channel will first specialize in elections coverage,
but then will move on to discuss social issues and concerns.

At first, the shows will be pre-recorded until they are issued a license to broadcast live. Host will include, Noha Nabil, who will be presenting shows that mainly target youth; Dr. Sajed Al-Abdili, who will have his self-titled show, as well as famous Kuwaiti journalists Abdulrahman Al-Najjar and Yousif Abdulhameed Al-Jassim. All will be hosting their own shows. The channel will be found on Arabsat, frequency 12283, polarization: vertical, symbol rate 27500.
