LOS ANGELES: Anze Kopitar and Jack Johnson scored in the first two rounds of a shootout as the Los Angeles Kings edged the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 in the NHL on Saturday. Jonathan Quick stopped both Chicago attempts as the Blackhawks saw their lead in the Central Division sliced to four points. Quick finished with 32 saves, and Wayne Simmonds scored early in the second period. Jonathan Towes had a third-period goal for Chicago.

In Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby had his fourth career hat trick and added two assists for his second five-point game as Pittsburgh trounced New York. Crosby scored once in the first and twice in the third period and added two-first period assists. Evgeni Malkin, Max Talbot, Mark Eaton, Pascal Dupuis and Tyler Kennedy also scored for Pittsburgh, which remained tied with Washington atop the Eastern Conference standings. In Columbus, Ohio, backup goaltender Curtis McElhinney stopped Anton Stralman in the fourth round of the shootout to give Calgary a narrow win over Columbus. Jamie Lundmark followed with the shootout winner for the Flames. With the Blue Jackets in control late in the third period with a 3-1 lead, Calgary's Dustin Boyd and Nigel Dawes scored in a 1:19 span to send the game to overtime. In Newark, New Jersey, Brian Rolston and Patrik Elias each had two goals and two assists as New Jersey thrashed New York to win its sixth straight at home. Martin Brodeur made 22 saves for the Devils. Zach Parise had a goal to extend his career-high points streak to 10 games, and Mike Mottau also scored for New Jersey. In Montreal, Nicklas Backstrom scored the only shootout goal on Washington's third attempt, defeating Montreal. Capitals goalie Semyon Varlamov stopped three Montreal shooters. Eric Fehr scored his second goal of the game to draw Washington even at 3-3 with 11 seconds remaining in regulation. Alexander Ovechkin also scored for the Capitals. Tomas Plekanec, Travis Moen and Jaroslav Spacek scored for Montreal.
Bruins 4, Senators 3, SO
In Boston, the hosts prevailed in a shootout over Ottawa, making it five wins from six. Michael Ryder scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Bruins also recorded a sixth straight over Ottawa. Ottawa's Milan Michalek forced overtime, scoring his second goal of the game with 19 seconds left and the goalie off for an extra attacker. Daniel Alfredsson also scored for the visitors. Ryder also had one of Boston's three power-play goals. Dennis Wideman and David Krejci had the other two for the Bruins.
Stars 4, Lightning 3, OT
In Dallas, the home team recovered from blowing a two-goal lead, beating Tampa Bay in overtime. Tom Wandell scored the winner two minutes in. Stephane Robidas and Jere Lehtinen scored power-play goals during a 71-second span of the second period, and Brenden Morrow added a third-period power-play goal to give Dallas a 3-1 edge. But the Lightning's Steve Stamkos and Jeff Halpern scored twice in 47 seconds to tie it. Paul Szczechura also scored for Tampa Bay.

In Atlanta, the hosts snapped a 14-game losing streak to Philadelphia. Goalie Johan Hedberg made 34 saves for his first shutout in two years, and 12th of his career. Rich Peverley scored his 10th goal, his sixth on the power play, midway through the second. The Thrashers won their third straight overall.
Predators 4, Panthers 1
In Nashville, Tennessee, JP Dumont and David Legwand scored early in the third period to lift Nashville over Florida. Dan Ellis made 23 saves for the Predators, while Dan Hamhuis and Joel Ward also scored. Jordan Leopold got Florida's goal.
Wild 3, Avalanche 2, SO
In Denver, Mikko Koivu and Andrew Ebbett scored in the shootout as Minnesota prevailed against Colorado. Josh Harding stopped both of Colorado's shooters and made 20 saves. Eric Belanger and Guillamume Latendresse scored in regulation for the Wild. Matt Duchene and Matt Hendricks scored for Colorado, which has lost five of its past six games.
Red Wings 4, Blues 3, SO
In St Louis, Detroit's three-game losing streak and goal drought ended with a shootout win over St Louis. Todd Bertuzzi beat Chris Mason high with a backhander in the fourth round of the shootout. Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and an assist, and Tomas Holmstrom and Kris Draper added goals for Detroit.
Canucks 7, Oilers 3
In Vancouver, British Columbia, Christian Ehrhoff, Alex Burrows, Mason Raymond and Daniel Sedin scored in the first 8:25 to set up Vancouver's win over Edmonton. Tanner Glass scored with 17 seconds left in the first period, and Alex Edler, Mikael Samuelsson added goals for the Canucks.
Sabres 5, Hurricanes 1
In Buffalo, New York, Buffalo scored five goals in the third period to keep Carolina winless on the road. Ryan Miller made 30 saves, Thomas Vanek, Derek Roy and Jochen Hecht had a goal and assist each, and Mike Grier and Clarke MacArthur also scored. - AP
