KUWAIT: The Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) held its ninth annual media night at the Palm Hotel in Salwa on Tuesday evening. The yearly event is held to honor the local media outlets and journalists who helped deliver the PAAET's message to the public, explained authority chairman Yacoub Al-Rifae, stressing that the media's role is pivotal in delivering the educational body's message.

Ever since the establishment of the authority in 1982, the media has played a great role in transforming the public concept of applied education and training, and helped to increase the number of PAAET graduates to almost 45,000 in all specialties," he said.

Al-Rifae urged media outlets to continue to be a bridge connecting the activities of PAAET with wider society. "Media is the mirror of society; it helps inform people about us, and through the constructive criticism that we always welcome, helps us to correct any mistakes we might have made," he explained.

In a subsequent speech, the head of the authority's public relations and media department said that the PAAET's holding of events such as the media night for nine years demonstrates the strong bond between the Kuwaiti media and the authority.

During the ceremony, an orchestra and choir composed of teachers and students from the basic education college's music department played and sang a number of musical pieces, varying from traditional Kuwaiti tunes to modern melodies.
The head of PAAET distributed the awards to the prizewinning journalists and other media figures from various local newspapers and TV channels, who all played an active part in positively presenting the PAAET's message to the public.
