MP slams education minister

KUWAIT: MP Khalaf Demitheer slammed the Minister of Education Nouriya Al-Sabeeh over a diplomat's misusing state funds. He questioned the legality of the ministry paying KD 5,000 as monthly rent towards the lease of a flat for a diplomat in Paris. The diplomat, who represents Kuwait at the United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in Paris violated the conditions of lease that he signed with the owner of the flat. He said the diplomat refused to vacate the apartment despite receiving v
acating orders from the owner over a year ago in accordance to conditions of the lease. The owner, he said is now demanding compensation estimated at KD 360,000 and demanded to know which official authorized the lease and if the ministry hired a lawyer to defend him, reported Al-Rai. He also asked if it was worth paying KD 5,000 as monthly rent for an apartment admeasuring 420 square meters that was rented to accommodate a family comprising just three members. KBC to hold Girgian

KUWAIT: The Kuwait Banks Club's (KBC) social committee recently coordinated with the management at the Al-Shaab Amusement Park to organize a special event celebrating the traditional annual Girgian festival on Saturday Sept 13. KBC Secretary Mohammed Al-Qattan said that the move came as part of a busy schedule of activities designed to achieve direct contact amongst bank staff and their families and to help them spend their free time fruitfully and enjoyably. Abdulsamad case

KUWAIT: The Court of Misdemeanors has assigned Sept 29 for discussion of Minister of Interior Sheikh Jaber Al-Khalid Al-Sabah's lawsuit against MP Adnan Abdulsamad. The minister accused the MP of insulting him during the memorial meeting held following the assassination of Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniya, reported Al Qabas. The lawyers representing the plaintiff and defendant have already attended a closed meeting at the court, with Abdulsamad's lawyer submitting a reconciliation request, which the minis
ter's lawyer agreed to. In view of this, the case is officially closed, with the final discussion on the 29th being a minor formality.

MoE approves document

KUWAIT: The Ministry of Education has approved the primary document for the high school (unified) system that focused on some amendments. It said the document features some important changes in the acceptance of admission of pupils as follows: 10 percent for pupils in the tenth grade, 30 percent for the eleventh and 60 percent for grade twelve. This will be applicable for all students' admissions with effect from the academic year 2008-2009. In another development, officials disclosed that the results of h
igh school examinations for both science and arts will be announced today, Thursday, for all students who are expected to appear for the second term.
